As promised, IK Multimedia’s version 2.0 update to AmpliTube for iPad is now available on the App Store. Version 2.0 provides many of the same new features as it’s little brother, AmpliTube 2 for iPhone, such as 5 new stomp boxes, multi-track recording, SpeedTrainer function, improved sound and more. Just like before, you still have one extra effect slot with the i Pad version of the app, and now if you buy the Multi-track recorder with master effects, you get 8 channels with 2 send effects and two master effects per channel. The update is free to all current users.

AmpliTube 2 for iPad is just as great of a step forward as its iPhone counterpart. The app has always been a little better on iPad than iPhone. As such, this update, while very similar, is just a little bit better on iPad. Instead of having a 4 track recorder on iPhone, you can buy an 8 track recorder on iPad. That’s a lot of tracks, almost beging for another interface to properly hook a regular microphone to your iPad. Before long, this app may mutate into a mobileGarageband-like app, which I’m all for.

All of the other new features are basically identical to the iPhone equivalent. There are fibe new stomp boxes you can buy: Compressor, Graphic EQ, Parametric EQ, Reverb and Limiter. Sadly, if you own both versions of this app, you’ll need to buy gear separately for them. That means your account doesn’t give you access to the same stomp effects in both apps unless you’ve purchased them in both. A bit of a bummer.

SpeedTrainer is the same. You can slow down or speed up a song without changing its pitch by 50-200% respectively.

The app now runs in the background if need be, you can turn off popup warnings and even name presets. I’d still like there to be a way to store and share presets online, but until then, this is still an amazing update that current users will be thrilled to download an install.
