Six-wicket win for Challengers

An unbeaten half-century from AB de Villiers denied Kochi Tuskers Kerala a winning start to life in the Indian Premier League.

De Villiers' 54 from 40 balls was the biggest contribution in the match, but it was his late hitting that proved pivotal in helping the Bangalore Royal Challengers to a six-wicket win.

Kochi had looked likely to claim a first-up success when Raiphi Gomez dismissed Saurabh Tiwary (26) in the 18th over, leaving the visitors needing 25 from the last 14 balls. But De Villiers launched Gomez's next two deliveries over the ropes and new man Asad Pathan followed it with three boundaries in Vinay Kumar's next over to claim the win with eight balls to spare.
