Advanced Mobile Technology: making the hearing-impaired persons communicate easily

Mobile TechnologyWe often wonder how to communicate effectively with our hearing – impaired friend when he/she is not with us. The obvious option is to send text messages. But with the modern technological improvement the process of communication has reached to a new level. Now there are cell phones that allow deaf people to communicate in sign language. Through this they can also use cell phone like us for speaking purpose.

These cell phones make the process of communication more convenient for them to use.  Through this they can easily communicate in their native language. It will help them to have the same connectivity as the normal hearing person. The venture to come up with new technology started few years back in Washington. As a result of their research work engineers were successful to develop the software called Mobile ASL (American Sign Language) .The technology behind the mobile ASL helps in face – to face communication over the cell phone making the process simpler.

How will this cell phones function

The Mobile ASL can be integrated onto any device that has a video camera on the same side of the phone as the screen. It has a improve image quality to take clear facial expressions and hand gestures. Research shows that deaf people often uses a sign hand to communicate. They focus more on facial expressions which is the major part of ASL. For this purpose they are uniquely designed to give the clearest image of face and hand movement. The software also detects whether a person is signing or not in order to extend the phone’s battery life.

ASL requires efficient video capturing for this reason the researchers had to make video compression software that could deliver video at about 10 frames per second.

However, that is not the only process to help people with hearing disability. There is also video relay service that works on Face Time to enable single-tap, face – to-face video interpreting. It works by connecting those in the need to a video interpreter by a special phone number.

So now we can overcome the hindrance in communicating with the hearing disable person. Get hold of these technologies and talk freely anytime, anywhere.
